The world's leading aeronautical museum

The Air and Space Museum (Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace) retraces the history of aviation and the conquest of space through an extraordinary collection of objects. Partly housed in the former Le Bourget air terminal, which welcomed commercial passengers until 1981, the museum extends over 125,000m² and 11 themed halls. To help you understand the meaning and history of the objects on display, the mediation team has designed themed tours and educational workshops for all levels.

The Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace, located at Le Bourget in Seine-Saint-Denis, has its origins on an airfield established in 1915 to meet the demands of the First World War. As early as 1919, this site saw the launch of the first air links to Brussels and London by airlines.

This historic site still bears witness to significant aviation events, such as the death of Nungesser and Coli and Lindbergh's successful crossing of the North Atlantic in 1927.

The museum's mission is to showcase the terminal, designed and built in 1937 by architect Labro, and now protected as a historical monument.

Around a hundred people work at the museum every day. Part of the staff is dedicated to the restoration and conservation of objects, while the other part is responsible for visitor reception, animation, promotion, maintenance, development and administration of the museum.

The Air and Space Museum is a state museum, under the aegis of the French Ministry of the Armed Forces, and supervised by the Direction de la Mémoire, de la Culture et des Archives (DMCA). Since January 1, 1994, it has had the status of an Établissement Public à Caractère Administratif (E.P.A.), with legal personality and financial autonomy.

From the outset, the MAE has been conceived as a general museum, with the mission of covering the entire field of aeronautics, both civil and military, French and foreign.
